The last few weeks have been busy. I can’t help but enjoy how busy spring can be. I feel so rejuvenated after a few minutes outside.
Recent highlights include:
New bushes, ferns and succulents
Porch sitting with sweet friends and strawberry shortcakes on Easter Sunday
Open House day at work with Ice Cream Sundaes (below is one of my student’s colorful bowl)
Last Friday, Ryan and I went to the Nickel Creek concert at the Ryman. It was one of the first stops on their tour since they got back together. I was just in awe of how amazing they sounded. The Secret Sisters opened and I really enjoyed their sound as well. If you haven’t ever listened to Nickel Creek, give it a try. I have such great memories from college while discovering them. They all came rushing back Friday night at the show.
A few weeks ago, we celebrated Ryan’s birthday with a delicious steak dinner and the wonkiest cake.
We got the meat from a local meat shop. I don’t think we will be able to go back to the regular grocery store. The taste was so much better.
I used my strawberry cake recipe but things weren’t too pretty. It tasted great!
Thank you to Loren for snapping some pics!
Last night was our last run before the big race tomorrow. Loren insisted that we take a photo before the run and I’m glad she did. We were reminiscing for most of the run saying things like “remember when we couldn’t even run 2 miles” and “I can’t believe we did it.”
The three of us have been running together six days a week for the last month and a half. Not only have we run, but we have also talked, stretched, made dinner and become a team. I couldn’t have made it without these two believing in me. Even though we may not all finish the race at the same time tomorrow, we have accomplished something huge together- the journey to the race. I was so hesitant to sign up for the 10K. The distant was overwhelming and I knew we didn’t have much time. We used the Couch to 10K app to train us and had to double up on workouts per week to be ready in time. Tuesday night we completed the total 6.2 miles and we know we are ready for the race tomorrow.
Loren and Ryan are wonderful encouragers and I am grateful to them for their kindness to me. Also, shout out to Lacey, Caroline, Bryan and Stephen for joining us when you could.
Stay tuned for pics tomorrow and pray for safety for this klutz!
Summer has always been my favorite. And this one is no exception!
Our succulents are doing so well this year. I am so thankful for the rain. It has made for cooler temperatures and growing plants.
And even though we have been terrible gardeners, our snap peas are going crazy. Thanks again to the rain! They taste oh so delish! I have been trying to incorporate them into as many meals as possible.
The baristas at our favorite coffee shop know how to brighten my morning.
My birthday chair is fitting in so well! Now I need to work on some curtains to bring some pazzaz!
I have done some experimental baking the last few weeks. The first attempt was to make Chocolate Avocado Cupcakes. I saw that Ruby from Cakies made them and decided to take a chance! They won’t be my go to recipe, but they were so much better than I expected!
The second sweet treat was to make Kate’s Rhubarb Pie. (Kate is the wife of our friend and wedding photographer- Lang. They met for the first time during our wedding weekend. And the rest is history!) I had never tried rhubarb anything so I didn’t really have high expectations. But we are major fans now! Ryan said this might be his favorite pie! If you haven’t given rhubarb a chance, now is the time! Last Friday, I went exploring with a friend for a collaboration project we hope to do and found this gorgeous home in the middle of a small town:
Isn’t it magical? We also ran into a 400 mile yard sale and got these goodies:We have been enjoying the outdoors by attending Hot Rods games, Monday Burger night on the square, lots of porch sittin’, card nights to the tune of Justin Timberlake, softball matches and good laughs with our friends. Bowling Green is the perfect place to enjoy summer and I am grateful that we have the chance.
It was so fun to take a disposable camera on this trip. It brought back memories from middle school. So many selfies!
This is my grandmother’s house! Isn’t it adorable!?!
