Beach Week

9 Jul

Ryan and I spent all of last week at the beach with my family, minus Gray (who was on a mission trip to Mexico). The beach is my happy place and it was pure bliss to be there for a whole week!

The first couple of days, I was sporting my Rifle Paper Tattly Tat from Katie Meek. I enjoyed three books while I was there. The first was “Cold Tangerines” by Shauna Niequist. I really enjoyed the way that she writes and celebrates life. The second was a suggested beach read at Barnes and Noble, “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” by Maria Semple. It is very quirky, but fun to read at the beach. The third was “Wife School” by Julie Gordon. This book has already been so helpful since I finished it a couple days ago. There are some great principles defined in a way that is so easy to ingest.

One of my favorite parts of this trip was riding around in my dad’s jeep with the top off. We also got some funny shots with the Go Pro. This is just a photo taken from a very interesting video…. Hopefully I will be able to share it soon!jeep

My dad just got a Go Pole so you can take photos out in front of you. We tried it out in the seaweed filled ocean a few times.DCIM100GOPRODCIM100GOPRODCIM100GOPROProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 presetDCIM100GOPROProcessed with VSCOcam with c1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 presetThese two are so cool. Ryan was putting the camera into the water and you can see the water coming up around the camera. It happened so fast that we didn’t see it, but the photo caught the action.

We went deep sea fishing on morning with the Persons. As we had done in the past, it became and guys vs. girls competition. The ladies dominated once again!

There is just something magical about catching a huge fish! When we got back, our guides filleted them up and we took it to a restaurant that cooked it up for us. You can’t get fresher fish than that!

Ryan and I enjoyed a day to ourselves and had a date night in Seaside at the Great Southern Cafe. It was my second time there and won’t be my last. The food is so delicious! Nickel Creek

23 Apr

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 presetThe last few weeks have been busy. I can’t help but enjoy how busy spring can be. I feel so rejuvenated after a few minutes outside.

Recent highlights include:

New bushes, ferns and succulents

Porch sitting with sweet friends and strawberry shortcakes on Easter Sunday

Open House day at work with Ice Cream Sundaes (below is one of my student’s colorful bowl)

Last Friday, Ryan and I went to the Nickel Creek concert at the Ryman. It was one of the first stops on their tour since they got back together. I was just in awe of how amazing they sounded. The Secret Sisters opened and I really enjoyed their sound as well. If you haven’t ever listened to Nickel Creek, give it a try. I have such great memories from college while discovering them. They all came rushing back Friday night at the show. secret sistasProcessed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Ryan’s Birthday

12 Mar

A few weeks ago, we celebrated Ryan’s birthday with a delicious steak dinner and the wonkiest cake.

We got the meat from a local meat shop. I don’t think we will be able to go back to the regular grocery store. The taste was so much better.bday dinner

I used my strawberry cake recipe  but things weren’t too pretty. It tasted great! Processed with VSCOcam with t1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Thank you to Loren for snapping some pics!

Team 10K

18 Oct

run team

Last night was our last run before the big race tomorrow. Loren insisted that we take a photo before the run and I’m glad she did. We were reminiscing for most of the run saying things like “remember when we couldn’t even run 2 miles” and “I can’t believe we did it.”

The three of us have been running together six days a week for the last month and a half. Not only have we run, but we have also talked, stretched, made dinner and become a team. I couldn’t have made it without these two believing in me. Even though we may not all finish the race at the same time tomorrow, we have accomplished something huge together- the journey to the race. I was so hesitant to sign up for the 10K. The distant was overwhelming and I knew we didn’t have much time. We used the Couch to 10K app to train us and had to double up on workouts per week to be ready in time. Tuesday night we completed the total 6.2 miles and we know we are ready for the race tomorrow.

Loren and Ryan are wonderful encouragers and I am grateful to them for their kindness to me. Also, shout out to Lacey, Caroline, Bryan and Stephen for joining us when you could.

Stay tuned for pics tomorrow and pray for safety for this klutz!

Beach Trip #2

23 Jul

On short notice, we got the chance to go to the beach for a few days last week!

But right before we headed that way, we got to go to a Beyonce concert! It was quite a performance!! I hadn’t ever been to see someone who was more than a singer. She was amazing!

It was a great trip with beautiful weather. We were so excited to have an unexpected second trip to the beach with my brother!

One new addition that we loved was a golf cart! Holmes was our chauffeur for the trip.

Until next time!

Full Bloom

12 Jun

Summer has always been my favorite. And this one is no exception!

Our succulents are doing so well this year. I am so thankful for the rain.  It has made for cooler temperatures and growing plants.

photo93photo5And even though we have been terrible gardeners, our snap peas are going crazy. Thanks again to the rain! They taste oh so delish! I have been trying to incorporate them into as many meals as possible.

photoMy birthday chair is fitting in so well! Now I need to work on some curtains to bring some pazzaz!

I have done some experimental baking the last few weeks. The first attempt was to make Chocolate Avocado Cupcakes. I saw that Ruby from Cakies made them and decided to take a chance! They won’t be my go to recipe, but they were so much better than I expected!

The second sweet treat was to make Kate’s Rhubarb Pie. (Kate is the wife of our friend and wedding photographer- Lang. They met for the first time during our wedding weekend. And the rest is history!) I had never tried rhubarb anything so I didn’t really have high expectations. But we are major fans now! Ryan said this might be his favorite pie! If you haven’t given rhubarb a chance, now is the time! photo4  Last Friday, I went exploring with a friend for a collaboration project we hope to do and found this gorgeous home in the middle of a small town:

Isn’t it magical? We also ran into a 400 mile yard sale and got these goodies:YardSaleWe have been enjoying the outdoors by attending Hot Rods games, Monday Burger night on the square, lots of porch sittin’, card nights to the tune of Justin Timberlake, softball matches and good laughs with our friends. Bowling Green is the perfect place to enjoy summer and I am grateful that we have the chance.

Birthday Beach Trip – part 2

24 May

It was so fun to take a disposable camera on this trip. It brought back memories from middle school. So many selfies!

This is my grandmother’s house! Isn’t it adorable!?!

Birthday Beach Trip – part 1

23 May

Last weekend, Ryan and I went to the beach to celebrate my birthday. We had plans to go to Holmes’ graduation in Birmingham and since we would be halfway to the beach, we decided it was a must.

Soon after we made that plan, my grandmother bought a beach house. Then everything else just fell into place!

We didn’t even realize how refreshing this trip would be! We bought a disposable camera so we could “unplug” from our phones and social media. I will post those tomorrow, but in the meantime here are a few of our favorite iPhone pics:

beach4beach2 beach3beach5 beach6beach124 is off to a great start!

15 May

The last few months have been a whirlwind. Here is a look:

There was some crazy hail one Sunday afternoon.

I mastered homemade pesto. More to come on that!ef5776ec9bb711e2a5d322000a1f90e5_7The Talisman portrait team travelled all over campus and the state to take photos, including one of our favorite student- Big Red.

Ryan took a tumble on a long board.

Spring came and we celebrated!

We went to Churchill Downs for some horse racing!
We decided that our house looks best when the grass is green and the sky is blue.
The school year has come to a close and we are working on wrapping up the Talisman. This team did an amazing job this year and am so proud of them!
Ryan and I are hitting the road tomorrow to celebrate Holmes’ graduation from Samford. Then we are scooting down to the beach for a few days- the best way to celebrate #24!
5 Mar

There is something about a rainy day that evokes reflection. And I realize I have neglected this space again. So here is a lot that doesn’t mesh….

I am wrapping up a big project at work that I am really excited about. One of the last things on the list was to go to the top of Pearce Ford Tower (a 27 story dorm) to take a photo.

photo-1The Upholstery for Beginners Class was very interesting. I realized that I am even a step below beginner. This is an interesting trade with so many tools. Each piece is different and you have to be really patient.

Although Ryan and I have always had similar interests, we differ in a big way when it comes to celebrities. Most days I can’t remember which guy is Brad Pitt and which is Tom Cruise. Ryan is pro. He knows every movie an actor has ever been in, who they were/are married to and what they are working on at the current time. One thing I have started to get into with him is award shows. We have created a new tradition for the Grammy’s and then continued it for the Oscar’s: Breakfast for dinner. This little mini-stack was so delish.

For Valentie’s Day, my grandmother, Pidgeon, mailed us some old photos. I love this one of me and Pops.

photoLast week, we got great news that our house appraised for even more than we were hoping for!! We will be able to refinance and save a huge amount over time! Yipee!! Now we can relax and enjoy all the progress we have made. I plan on doing a whole post on the porch when spring decides to come to BG to stay, but here is a look and the amazing work of Matt and Ryan. We had no idea how terrible it was structurally because it was all pretty well hidden, but this thing was not in good shape. Now it is well supported and so beautiful! The guys even kept the panels between the posts! I love the character this little porch adds to our house. And I am really loving the new color scheme. The front door color was trial and error, but I love the finished product!

Last weekend, we celebrated Ryan’s 25th birthday. This photo from Halloween 2008 cracks me up. We were just friends at the time and I remember making a big deal about how silly he looked.  cd86d08a839811e2b95b22000a1fab39_7We also got to celebrate Ryan’s birthday with my family in Nashville. It was a last minute plan and only about a 4 hour visit, but we loved it! My fam was there to cheer on the ECS Eagles in the State Championship so we went with them to the game and then to a quick dinner before heading back to BG for cake with our friends.

I am headed to NYC this weekend for a College Media Convention. I also get to squeeze in a visit with Holmes, my aunt and a few friends.
